Karnataka HC Grants Anticipatory Bail to B.S. Yediyurappa in POCSO Case

The Karnataka High Court granted anticipatory bail to 81-year-old former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa while hearing a plea to quash a POCSO case filed against him. A woman had accused Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her 17-year-old daughter at his Bengaluru residence in February last year. Based on her complaint, the Sadashivanagar police registered an FIR under the POCSO Act and IPC, later transferring the case to the CID. 

Yediyurappa denied the allegations, while the complainant alleged he tried to cover up the matter with monetary assistance. The victim’s mother passed away in May last year. The State Government argued for a trial, but the High Court set aside the summons served by a lower court. Following the ruling, State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, Yediyurappa’s son, confirmed the court's direction to review the summons.
