Karnataka’s Summer Set to be Hotter Than Ever, Warns Weather Department

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

Bengaluru: With summer set to begin in Karnataka in the next two weeks, meteorologists predict a significant rise in temperatures, surpassing last year’s records. Experts warn that the mercury could exceed 45°C in coastal and northern Karnataka, with the possibility of touching 50°C in some regions. Several districts may experience severe heatwave conditions, according to sources from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heatwave Threat Looms Over Northern and Coastal Karnataka

Karnataka is expected to enter the summer season in the first week of March. In 2024, some districts in North Karnataka recorded a maximum temperature of 45°C. However, this year, April is likely to witness even higher temperatures. In Bengaluru, the mercury could rise to 39°C, while areas such as Coastal Karnataka, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, and Bagalkote may see temperatures soaring beyond 45°C.

Meteorologists caution that North Karnataka and coastal districts are at risk of extreme heatwave conditions. However, according to IMD Bengaluru Division Director C.S. Patil, Bengaluru and other districts in South Interior Karnataka are unlikely to be affected by heatwaves.

For the next three days, North Interior Karnataka will experience a slight dip in maximum temperatures, which are expected to be 1-2°C lower than normal. However, a gradual rise in temperatures will follow. Meanwhile, no significant changes are expected in the maximum temperatures across coastal and South Interior Karnataka over the next five days. Dry weather is forecasted to persist across the state until February 18.

Wind Patterns to Influence Temperature Changes

Meteorologists explain that seasonal wind patterns significantly impact temperature variations. During winter, cold winds from northern India bring biting cold to Karnataka. Similarly, during summer, when winds from the north sweep across the state, temperatures rise considerably. With northern winds expected to begin over the next three days, a temporary dip in temperatures is anticipated before they begin climbing again.

Residents are advised to prepare for the impending summer heat and take necessary precautions as the state gears up for an intense season ahead.
