Jalandhar, April 18 – An FIR has been registered against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and three other members of the film Jaat’s production team, following allegations that a scene in the movie has offended sentiments of the Christian community.
The complaint, lodged by Christian leader Viklav Gold, accuses the film of containing content that is disrespectful toward Jesus Christ and Christian religious rituals. The movie, which premiered on April 10, has drawn criticism not just for its scenes but also for its release date, which closely coincides with Good Friday — being observed today, April 18.
According to Sanjeev Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) at the Jalandhar Cantt police station, the FIR was filed Wednesday evening. Alongside Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, actor Vineet Kumar, director Gopichand, and producer Naveen have also been named in the case.
“The complaint falls under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to intentional and malicious actions aimed at outraging the religious feelings of any group by insulting their religion or beliefs,” SHO Kumar stated.
Film director Gopichand Malineni has issued an apology to the Christian community and shared an update, stating that the objectionable part of the movie has been removed immediately. He wrote, "Our sincere apologies to everyone whose sentiments were hurt. The objectionable scene has been removed."
