Veteran Kannada Actor Bank Janardhan Passes Away at 77

Renowned for his impeccable comic timing and distinctive screen presence, veteran Kannada actor Bank Janardhan passed away at the age of 77 in the early hours of April 14. He breathed his last at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, where he was admitted following age-related health complications.

 

Janardhan, who had been battling ailments associated with aging, was hospitalized recently, and despite medical efforts, he succumbed around midnight. A final viewing has been arranged at his residence today at 10 AM to allow fans and well-wishers to pay their last respects.

 

With his passing, the Kannada film industry has lost a rare gem—a character actor whose contribution to cinema spanned over 500 films. Bank Janardhan earned a special place in the hearts of audiences with his unique brand of humor and unforgettable supporting roles.

 

Born in Bengaluru in 1948, Janardhan made his cinematic debut in 1985 with the film Pitamaha. Over the decades, he became a familiar face in the industry, featuring in notable films such as Upendra, Shhh, Tarle Nan Maga, Belliappa Bangarappa, Zee Boomba, Ganesh Subramanya, and Kaurava, among many others.

 

In September 2023, he had suffered a heart attack but recovered after medical treatment. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated again in recent times, leading to his demise.

 

Bank Janardhan’s legacy lives on through his vast body of work and the joy he brought to audiences across generations.
