Rewa: Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, which borders Prayagraj, has seen a significant rise in Maha Kumbh-bound traffic over the past 24 hours, prompting the administration to remain on high alert, officials reported on Sunday.
At the Chakghat border, approximately 1,000 vehicles per hour are heading towards Prayagraj, while around 800 vehicles are returning during the same period. Prayagraj, the host city of Maha Kumbh, is located 45 km from this border.
Authorities have set up the first parking area six kilometers from Chakghat in Uttar Pradesh, with extensive arrangements at holding areas and help centers for pilgrims. Inspector General of Rewa Range Saket Prakash Pandey stated that while vehicles are not being stopped at Bela, Gangev, and Chakghat holding points, the police and administration remain on high alert.
Sub Divisional Officer of Police Udit Mishra noted that although the situation is under control, traffic volume increased over the weekend, contributing to congestion on National Highway 30. Similar holding zones have been set up in Maihar, Katni, and Satna districts of Madhya Pradesh.
With Prayagraj declared a no-vehicle zone, traffic has surged at the border. The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will conclude on February 26.
