18 Killed in Stampede at New Delhi Railway Station Amid Maha Kumbh Rush

A tragic stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday night claimed the lives of at least 18 people, including 11 women and five children, as a massive crowd gathered due to the delay of two special trains bound for the Maha Kumbh. Officials reported that the overcrowding led to chaos, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The chief casualty medical officer of LNJP Hospital confirmed the deaths, stating that the victims included 10 women, three children, and two men. Additionally, three more fatalities were recorded at Lady Hardinge Hospital.
In response to the tragedy, the Indian Railways has launched an inquiry and announced compensation: ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased, ₹2.5 lakh for those critically injured, and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries. Among the deceased, nine were from Bihar, eight from Delhi, and one from Haryana. Railway authorities have arranged for officials to accompany bereaved families back to their hometowns.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences over the unfortunate incident.
