Hubballi Senior Citizen Scammed Through Malicious APK File, Loses Over Rs 9 Lakh

Hubballi: A 76-year-old retired employee, Jagadish Manne, a resident of Chetana Colony, fell victim to cyber fraud, losing ₹9.03 lakh from his bank account.

The fraud began when Manne's phone number was added to a WhatsApp group claiming to be associated with a public bank. Within the group, the fraudsters sent an APK file named "Bank PAN Card Update." Believing it to be genuine, Manne downloaded the file.

Although he received multiple OTPs and did not share them with anyone, the fraudsters managed to siphon off ₹9.03 lakh from his bank account.
