FIFA World Cup: Morocco Plans to Cull Three Million Stray Dogs

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

Morocco's preparations for co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal have sparked international outrage due to reports of plans to cull up to three million stray dogs. Animal welfare groups allege authorities are employing inhumane methods, including poisoning, shooting, and beating dogs to death, despite legal protections against such actions.

The International Animal Welfare and Protection Coalition estimates millions of dogs could be exterminated as part of this campaign, prompting renowned animal rights advocate Jane Goodall to urge FIFA to intervene. Goodall has called for the suspension of the tournament in Morocco if these actions persist.

Animal welfare organisations promoting humane alternatives like trap-neuter-vaccinate-release (TNVR) programmes are struggling with overcrowded shelters and dwindling resources. The ongoing culling has intensified calls for ethical and sustainable solutions to address the issue.
