Bidar: In a brazen daylight robbery, two masked, bike-borne robbers decamped with ₹93 lakh after opening fire at security personnel near the SBI Main Branch ATM in Bidar on Thursday. The incident occurred around 10:30 am when three staff members of CMS, a security agency, were filling the ATM with cash.

The robbers assaulted the security guards and used chili powder to incapacitate them. They then fired six rounds, killing one guard, Giri (42), and critically injuring another, Shivakumar (35), who is undergoing treatment in Hyderabad. A third staff member escaped unhurt.

Eyewitnesses reported that despite a crowd of onlookers filming the incident, no one intervened due to fear. The robbers fled within 10 minutes after struggling to load a cash trunk onto their bike.

Police have formed five teams to investigate, with CCTV footage being reviewed. Authorities suspect the robbers might have escaped to Telangana, just 25 km from Bidar. Local officials, including SP Pradeep Gunte and district in-charge minister Eshwar Khandre, have vowed to ensure a thorough investigation and support for the victims' families.

This shocking incident has raised questions about the lack of firearms with the ATM security team and highlighted security lapses in cash handling operations.
