HPV Vaccination Drive in Hubballi: Rotary Club, VRL Logistics Join Hands

 Hubballi: In a step toward preventing cervical cancer, VRL Logistics Ltd, in association with the Rotary Club of Hubli Central (Rotary International District 3170), will inaugurate the Sukanya Suraksha HPV Vaccination Drive. The event is scheduled for January 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Tatwadarsha Hospital, Shirur Park, Gokul Road, Hubballi.

The ceremony will be attended by Anand Sankeshwar, Managing Director of VRL Logistics Ltd, and Vani Sankeshwar, Director of VRL Media. Guests of Honour include Dr. Ratnamala Desai, Principal of SDM Medical College, and Dr. Sanjeev Kulgod, Chairman of Tatwadarsha Health Care.

Key contributors to this initiative include Rtn. Dr. Kasturi Donimath (Project Coordinator), Rtn. Dr. Nagrekha Hebsur (Project Secretary), and Rtn. Rajeshwari Vasuki (President, RC Hubli Central). The project is chaired by AG Rtn. Dr. Mahima Dand, with Rtn. Dr. Sheetal Kulgod and Rtn. Dr. Rama Desai as Project Executives, and Rtn. Shreevalli Hebsur as Secretary.

Fighting Cervical Cancer with the Cervavac Vaccine

Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of death among women in India, claiming eight lives every minute. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer, affects most women during their lifetime. The Sukanya Suraksha drive aims to protect young girls from this disease through vaccination and awareness.

The vaccination drive will use Cervavac, a quadrivalent vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India. It targets four HPV subtypes (6, 11, 16, and 18), which account for 70% of cervical cancer cases globally.

Key vaccine details:

  • Age Recommendation: Girls aged 9 to 14 years
  • Dosage: Single dose
  • Cost: ₹1,500 per dose ( It will be provided free of cost for underprivileged girls)
