Renowned Plastic Surgeon Dr. Deepak Nanda Delivers Guest Lecture on Skin Banking and Burn Management

Hubballi: Dr. Deepak Nanda, Professor of Plastic Surgery at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, and the nodal officer for the skin bank, delivered an insightful guest lecture on the importance of skin banking and burn management during his recent visit to the city.
Drawing from his vast experience, Dr. Nanda shared that his team had successfully completed 36 cadaveric skin harvests over the past year at Safdarjung Hospital (SJH), New Delhi. Highlighting the growing need for skin banks across the country, he explained the essential requirements for setting up a skin bank, including infrastructure, trained manpower, and the critical role of raising public awareness about skin donation.
In addition to his discussion on skin banks, Dr. Nanda addressed M.Ch. Plastic Surgery residents from Karanataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI) and SDM Medical College, along with postgraduate students from General Surgery. He provided valuable insights into the management of acute burn injuries and shared emerging concepts and advancements in the field of plastic surgery.
Dr. Nanda, who was en route to Mundagod for charitable work, was warmly received by the faculty and students. The session witnessed the participation of prominent doctors including PMSSY Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajashankar, Dr. Ravindra Eligar, Dr.SS Shirol, Dr. Vinayak Chouhan, Dr. Byakodi, and Dr. SY Mulkipatil.
