Dharwad: Once celebrated for its pleasant weather, Dharwad has now witnessed an unprecedented rise in mercury levels, recording a scorching 41.7 degrees Celsius—the highest in Karnataka—on March 23 and 24.

According to data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru, Dharwad topped the heat charts, surpassing other districts across the state. Following closely, Belagavi registered 41.5°C, Karwar hit 41.2°C, Kalaburagi recorded 41.1°C, while both Raichur and Haveri sizzled at 40.9°C.

Other regions weren't spared either. Hosapete recorded 40.4°C, Bidar logged 40.3°C, and Gadag, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot each reported 40.2°C.

For the first time in several years, North Karnataka is experiencing such extreme summer conditions, with blistering heat and relentless sunshine gripping the region.

KSNDMC further noted that Dharwad had previously touched 41.2°C on March 16. However, the city surpassed its own record in just a week, climbing to 41.7°C. The temperatures were monitored during the 24-hour window from 8:30 am on March 23 to 8:30 am on March 24.
