Why the BCCI Chose Sitanshu Kotak as Batting Coach Over Big Names Like Kevin Pietersen

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially named Sitanshu Kotak as Team India’s batting coach, ahead of the upcoming home series against England. Kotak, who has previously coached the T20I squad during their 2023 Ireland tour under Jasprit Bumrah, will work alongside Gautam Gambhir and other key coaching staff, including Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, T Dilip, and Morne Morkel.

A seasoned domestic cricketer, Kotak amassed 8,061 runs in 130 first-class matches and 3,083 runs in 89 List A games. He also has prior coaching experience with the India A team and the IPL’s Gujarat Lions. With India lacking a designated batting coach until now, Kotak’s role becomes particularly significant.

After retiring from professional cricket, Sitanshu Kotak transitioned to coaching, earning recognition at the NCA and serving as India A head coach for four years. A certified Level 3 coach, his qualifications enhance his ability to manage elite players.

The India-England series begins on January 22 with five T20Is, followed by three ODIs in February. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who showed interest in the batting coach position, was overlooked for the role.
