Fatehpur Sikri: Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his family, visited Fatehpur Sikri on Friday and offered a chadar at the dargah of Sheikh Salim Chishti, officials confirmed.

According to Dilip Singh, Assistant Conservationist of the Archaeology Department, Sunak and his family first explored Diwan-e-Aam and Jodhabai’s Palace before proceeding to the dargah, where he tied a sacred thread and paid his respects.

Sunak and his family, including his wife Akshata Murty, mother-in-law Sudha Murty, and daughters Krishna and Anoushka, arrived in Agra on February 15. On their first day, they visited the Taj Mahal, followed by a trip to Fatehpur Sikri the next day. The family spent two hours exploring the historical site.

During his visit to the Taj Mahal, Sunak expressed admiration for the monument, writing in the ASI visitor book: "This is truly beautiful. There are only a few places in the world that are so magnificent that children are excited to visit for the first time. It is a unique and memorable place to spend time with family."

His wife Akshata Murty also called it an experience to cherish for generations.

Originally scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, Sunak’s daughters were keen to see the monument earlier. Accompanied by Sudha Murty, a Padma Bhushan awardee and Rajya Sabha member, the family decided to witness the Taj Mahal at sunset instead.

They arrived at 5 PM in a battery-operated car, capturing the mesmerizing glow of the Taj under the evening sky.
