Colleagues Recall Legacy of Dr. Gajanan Nayak During Touching Farewell Ceremony

 Hubballi: Former Director of Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KRIMS) Dr. Gajanan H. Nayak, a name synonymous with dedication and excellence in forensic medicine, retired after nearly three decades of service at the Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI) and the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KRIMS).

Known for performing over 10,000 postmortems and contributing significantly to several high-profile forensic cases in Karnataka, Dr. Nayak's departure marks the end of an illustrious career.

On Monday, a heartfelt farewell was organized by KMCRI, attended by his batchmates, teachers, family members, and Heads of Departments. The gathering was a poignant tribute to a man who not only excelled in his field but also left an indelible mark on the institutions he served.

Dr. Nayak's MBBS batchmates reminisced about their early days, while his colleagues spoke about his unparalleled contributions and impeccable work ethic. Dr. Arun Kumar, Director of DIMHANS, shared fond memories of their hostel days and highlighted Dr. Nayak's exceptional leadership qualities.

Dr. Ishwar Hosmani, HoD of General Surgery, and renowned surgeon Dr. Vijay Kamat praised Dr. Nayak's expertise in forensic medicine and his transformative leadership at KRIMS. They emphasized that his contributions would be remembered by the people of North Canara for decades. Dr. Hosmani also shared a personal note, mentioning Dr. Nayak’s deep love for Kannada literature, particularly the magazine Lankesh Patrike.

Former KIMS Director, Dr. V. N. Biradar, affectionately recalled Dr. Nayak as the "naughtiest" and most obedient of his students, never failing to honor his teacher’s words.

Dr. Ramalingappa Antartani, former KMCRI Director, credited Dr. Nayak for significant advancements at the KMCRI i, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art mortuary with 18 cold storages.

KMCRI Director Dr. S. F. Kammar, along with Dr. Ravindra Gadag, Dr. S. Y. Mulkipatil, Dr. Rajshankar, Dr. Gurushantappa Yalagachhin, and Dr. Suryakanth Kalluraya, among others, spoke warmly about Dr. Nayak's contributions and legacy.

 The event was attended by Dr. Venkatesh Moger, Dr. Raichur, Dr. Sunil Biradar, Dr Laxmikanth, Dr. Mahesh Desai, Dr. Rathod, Dr Rajashekhar Dyaberi and Dr. G. C. Patil.

His wife, Dr. Archana, and daughter, Dr. Nimisha, stood by his side during this memorable occasion, visibly moved by the outpouring of respect and love for him.
