BCCI Mulls Restricting Player Families on Tours Post Australia Debacle

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is evaluating several disciplinary measures following India’s 1-3 Test series defeat in Australia, their first in 10 years. Key proposals include:

Restricting Family Presence: Wives and family members may be allowed on tours for a maximum of two weeks for trips longer than 45 days, and one week for shorter assignments.

Mandatory Team Bus Usage: Players and staff will be required to travel exclusively by the team bus to avoid anti-corruption concerns and maintain discipline.

Barring Personal Managers: Personal managers of players and coaches will not be allowed on the team bus after a recent incident involving a senior coach's manager.

Luggage Restrictions: Players exceeding 150kg of luggage will have to bear the additional charges themselves.

These measures, discussed in a review meeting attended by skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, stem from incidents like a player’s spouse creating behind-the-scenes YouTube content during the Australia tour.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the enforcement of the team bus rule, highlighting it should have always been the norm.
