India Unveils 15-Member Squad for Champions Trophy 2025; Rohit to Lead, Jaiswal Makes ODI Debut

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

The Indian cricket team has revealed its 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, set to be led by Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain. The squad retains several key players from the 2023 ODI World Cup while introducing promising talent.

Injury Updates

Ahead of the selection, fitness concerns loomed over Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Kuldeep, recovering from hernia surgery in November, has been steadily increasing his bowling workload at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Reports suggest he has been bowling 10–12 overs at a stretch. Meanwhile, Bumrah, sidelined by a stress injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has made a strong comeback.

Key Selections

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a rising star, earns his maiden call-up for ODIs and is likely to be the reserve opener. The middle order features established names such as Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, with Rishabh Pant chosen as the secondary wicketkeeper over Sanju Samson.

The allrounder lineup includes Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, offering depth in both batting and bowling. Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker at the 2023 ODI World Cup, returns after an extended injury break and bolsters the pace attack alongside Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.

Schedule and Group Matches

India is grouped in Group A and will play all their matches in Dubai due to political restrictions on traveling to Pakistan. The tournament begins with India facing Bangladesh on February 20, followed by Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2. Preparations include three ODIs against England on February 6, 9, and 12.
