Just Before ICC Champions Trophy, Morne Morkel Departs Indian Camp!

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

Dubai: India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has returned to South Africa due to a family emergency, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Morkel, who took up the role in September last year, had traveled with the Indian squad to Dubai on Saturday for the ICC Champions Trophy. He was present for the team's first practice session but was notably absent from training on Monday. His sudden departure comes just as India prepares to kick off their tournament campaign against Bangladesh on Thursday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury, India’s pace attack will now rely on Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Shami, with Hardik Pandya available as an additional fast-bowling option.

Although Pakistan is the official host of the event, India will play all its matches in Dubai under the hybrid model agreed upon by tournament organizers. The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is set for Sunday, drawing immense excitement among fans.

The first semifinal is scheduled for March 4, while the final is set to take place on March 9, provided India qualifies for the championship decider.
