Hubballi: A 36-year-old man from Yalival village in Kundagol taluk died by suicide after allegedly facing constant harassment from a lender despite repaying his loan. The incident came to light after his body was found in Unkal Lake, Hubballi.
The deceased, identified as Shivanand Basavanneppa Kallimani, had reportedly borrowed ₹4 lakh from an acquaintance. Even after repaying the principal along with interest, the lender allegedly continued to pressure him for more money. Unable to bear the harassment, Shivanand left a suicide note before taking the drastic step.
His motorcycle and the note were discovered in Guttal, Haveri district, where he was last seen on February 12. A missing person report had been filed at Kundagol police station on February 16. Preliminary investigations suggest that his body had been in the lake for nearly three days.
Authorities confirmed that the incident was not linked to microfinance loans but an informal private loan transaction. Meanwhile, the accused is currently on the run, and police have launched a manhunt.
Speaking on the case, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar assured that the suspect will be arrested soon and necessary legal action will be taken.
