Hubballi:
The Karnataka Bandh called by various pro-Kannada organizations is expected to evoke a lukewarm response in the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad.
The bandh has been called in protest against an incident that took place in Belagavi on February 21, where a group of Marathi youths allegedly assaulted a bus conductor named Mahadev near Sulebhavi-Balekundri. The altercation reportedly began when the conductor asked a passenger to speak in Kannada, sparking tensions in the region.
Speaking to Dailymail24online, Amrut Ijare, North Karnataka President of Namma Karnataka Sene, said that while his organization supports the cause, they will extend only moral support to the bandh. “Our members will not take to the streets,” he added.
It appears that no major Kannada organizations or prominent activists will participate in street protests tomorrow, making the overall impact of the bandh negligible.
Some schools in the city have postponed their annual exams scheduled for tomorrow as a precaution. However, according to information received so far, normal life in Hubballi-Dharwad is expected to remain largely unaffected.
