Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti Mulls Resignation Over Declining House Discipline

Daily Mail 24 News Desk.

Hubballi: Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has hinted at stepping down from his position, expressing disappointment over the declining standards of debates and growing indiscipline among legislators.

Speaking to reporters at his residence on Sunday, Horatti did not hold back his displeasure, stating that the quality of discussions in the State legislature had hit a new low. “It is disheartening to witness the level of debates in both the Council and the Assembly deteriorate. Even the overall conduct of members has worsened,” he remarked.

Referring to recent controversies cropping up during the sessions, Horatti said, “The fact that issues like honey traps are being raised in the House reflects where we’ve reached. It makes me question whether I should continue to preside over such proceedings. After being a part of this Council for over 40 years, I now find myself considering resignation.”

He further lamented the growing disobedience among legislators. “Members no longer respect the Chair. Their refusal to follow basic instructions leaves me deeply concerned. Politics has stooped to new lows, forcing me to introspect seriously,” he added.

Horatti mentioned that he would consult his well-wishers before making a final decision. "There are also some technical aspects to the resignation process. Once those are cleared, I will take a call,” he said.
