Maddur, Sept. 8 (DailyMail24 Online): Tension prevailed in Maddur town on Sunday evening after miscreants allegedly hurled stones at a Ganesh idol immersion procession. In the wake of the incident, prohibitory orders have been enforced across the town.
According to Mandya District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when a procession from Tamil Nadu Colony reached Ram Rahim Colony Road near a place of worship. A stone reportedly struck one of the participants, coinciding with a sudden power outage. This triggered stone pelting from both sides.
Police personnel, including three PSIs and several constables deployed at the spot, intervened immediately and dispersed the mob. The procession was later allowed to continue, and the idol immersion was carried out without further disturbance.
Following the incident, a group of people staged a brief protest demanding action. They were pacified by the police. Two FIRs have been registered—one suo motu by the police and another based on a complaint from Ajay, the injured participant. Based on preliminary investigation, 21 individuals have been taken into custody. While most of them are said to be local residents, two are believed to be from Channapatna. Their residential adderesses are under verification, the SP added.
SP Baladandi further stated that prohibitory orders have been imposed in Maddur till September 9. The decision on extending the restrictions will depend on the prevailing situation. Additional police forces have been deployed, and the situation is reported to be under control.
