Bengaluru: As regional tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed authorities to carry out civil defence mock drills across 244 districts on May 7. The large-scale preparedness exercise is aimed at ensuring robust civil defence systems amid growing security concerns.
According to government sources, in Karnataka, the drill will be conducted in Bengaluru ( Urban), Malleshwaram and Raichur.
The nationwide drill, scheduled for Wednesday, will be conducted in several key states, including Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Kerala Odisha, and West Bengal. Officials say this is part of proactive measures to enhance emergency response capabilities.
This move follows heightened alert levels across the country, particularly after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people. In response, security protocols have been intensified, and the mock drill is seen as a critical step in reinforcing public safety infrastructure.
Authorities are expected to simulate various emergency scenarios during the drill to assess coordination among disaster response agencies and improve overall readiness.
