Dharwad: In a smuggling attempt straight out of the blockbuster movie Pushpa, a gang tried to conceal spirit cans behind sacks of garlic, husk and limestone. But their cinematic strategy failed when the Garag police team intercepted the trucks and caught them red-handed on Monday night.

The Garag police have successfully seized approximately 30,000 litres of spirit worth Rs 3,444,800, which was being transported from Maharashtra to an unknown location, which the police have yet to ascertain. The police team, led under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, Additional SP Shivanand Katagi, and DySP Vinod Muktedar, and the team led by Inspector Shivayogi Lohar and PSI Siddaramappa Unnad, successfully conducted the raid.

The police, apart from seizing the spirit, have also seized two trucks which were being used to transport it. The police arrested truck driver Sajeev Sadanandan Kollali, 44, and another person who was in the vehicle, Joy Ramachandra Kijakat, both residents of Kerala. Another truck driver managed to escape, said the police.

Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya congratulated the team for successfully conducting the raid. The Garag police are investigating the case.
