New Delhi, Sept. 12 (Daily Mail Online): After delivering excess rainfall across large parts of the country, the southwest monsoon is likely to commence its withdrawal from sections of northwest India around September 17, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Officials noted that atmospheric conditions are expected to turn favourable for the retreat of the monsoon towards the end of that week.
Between June 1 and September 11, India as a whole received 8% more rainfall than the seasonal average. Northwest India recorded the sharpest surplus, with rains exceeding normal levels by 34%. Central India also saw higher-than-expected showers at 11% above normal, while the southern peninsula reported a 7% surplus. In contrast, the eastern and northeastern states experienced a deficit, with rainfall measuring 20% below the seasonal norm during this period.
