Karnataka High Court Janivar Case

Bengaluru: The Karnataka HC has issued notices to the state government and the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha from the alleged incident of students being forced to remove Janivara (the sacred thread) during the CET. The trial was postponed to 9th of June.

The notice was issued by a division bench of Chief Justice N.V. Anjararia and Justice K.V. Aravind, after hearing a petition filed by the Brahmana Mahasabha, which contended that not allowing students with the Janivara to appear for the CET was unconstitutional and violated the right of children to education. The Mahasabha has demanded a re-test for the students who have suffered.
