Hubballi: In a shocking incident, a Kerala-based gold trader lost gold ornaments worth Rs 3 crore to a gang posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials.
Thrissur resident and gold trader Sudheen MS is the person who lost the gold. According to the police, Sudheen supplies gold ornaments to jewellery shops after showing them designs, and he was targeted by a gang of six who claimed to be ED officers.
According to the police, Sudheen and an employee of his, Vivek, reached Hubballi on November 19 after visiting several jewellery shops in Mangaluru, Gokak, and Belagavi. Sudheen and Vivek had gold jewellery weighing 2 kg 949 grams worth Rs 3.2 crore. Both the victims stayed at the Renuka Lodge in Hubballi, and they were on their way to the lodge when this incident happened.
On November 19, the miscreants stopped the duo when they were about to enter the lodge, claiming they were ED officials by showing their fake identity cards. They then took Sudheen and Vivek in their Maruti Ertiga, informing them they need to come with them for interrogation at their office. The miscreants accused Sudeen of illegally transporting gold and seized their mobile phones and threw the SIM cards outside.
They later assaulted him and snatched the bag containing the gold ornaments. The accused dropped worker Vivek near Kittur in Belagavi. Later, they abandoned Sudin in the middle of the road near M.K. Hubballi and fled. The Suburban police have registered a case, and an investigation is going on.
